Frigates
Designated FF, these ships are normally smaller and less heavily armed than a destroyer.  Most escort vessels were reclassified as frigates after World War II.  They are generally tailored to a specific role, such as anti-submarine warfare.  The more capable frigates carry helicopters.  Displacements range from 1,500 to 6,000 tons.
