The Marathi Prem Wardhak Mandali is the first Marathi association in Mauritius. It was created 109 years ago by our forefathers of Marathi origin, who arriving on ships as indentured labourers, chose the village of Cascavelle to build the first Marathi temple. It was then known as the Vithobha Mandir and has since had a changed of name to Cascavelle Pandharpur Pandurang Kshetra Mandir. It is the first and oldest Marathi temple in Mauritius.
From the little thatched roof hut, the Cascavelle Pandharpur Pandurang Kshetra Mandir has grown to a prestigious well-known temple adopted by all Marathas and other Hindus of Mauritius. We have throughout the years consolidated what was started 109 years ago. Lots of sacrifices and resources have gone into making the temple and the association what it is now…a respected, wonderfully and spiritually charged mandir…
THere a warm and sincere thanks goes to all those who have served loyally the association and temple throughout the years. Their dedication and enthusiasm is to their credit. The new and coming generation is to be saluted for their goodwill and huge task of keeping and following into the steps of those who have put this association and mandir on its current level.
Let us now hope and wish that they will keep holding the Maratha flame, high enough, to make us a strong and well respected community in our beloved Mauritius.
