53 rd Anniversary celebrations - Servas Pakistan.

Servas Pakistan Meeting was held to celebrate the 53rd Anniversary of SERVAS International at Hotel Holiday Inn, Egerton Road Lahore, Pakistan on 10th October 2002. & it was presided by the National Secretary of Servas Pakistan Mr. Muhammad Naseem. The Meeting was started in Blossom`s Conference Hall at 3.00 p.m. In the meeting, there were forty eight members from all over Pakistan including nine females members and the Chief Guest. In this meeting, there were some new faces.

The honorable Chief Guest was Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Sultan – Child Specialist (Head of the Department, Department of Paediatrics Post Graduate Medical Institute Services Hospital Lahore) He congratulated all the members of SERVAS Pakistan on the occasion of 53rd Anniversary of Servas International and highlighted his experience of traveling in United Kingdom and Thailand for the purpose of study and research. He also told the Servas members about the importance of Peace, Education and Tourism. He realized that the mission of Servas is to create the atmosphere of friendship through “Open Doors Open Minds” in different nations of the entire world. He also prayed for the bright future of SERVAS.

All members actively participated and proposed suggestions to uplift the activities of SERVAS Pakistan and as well as SERVAS Pakistan Newsletter. The first SERVAS Pakistan Newsletter was distributed among the members. Mr. M. Waheed Butt distributed ballpoints among all the members and Mr. Tanveer Ahmed Guddu also distributed his beautiful “With Best Compliments” cards among all members of SERVAS Pakistan. This meeting was held as Servas International Anniversary day and to review the activities of last Servas meetings.

Programme Coordinator Mr. Faisal Naveed Toor welcomed the Chief Guest and other participants. Programme was started with recitation of Holy Quran followed by the National Anthem of Pakistan and SERVAS SONG. Dr. Saleem recited few verses from the Holy Quran with translation. Programme Coordinator told the importance of National Anthem and Servas Song by Barbara Whitehead who wrote the Servas Song in two languages, English and Esperanto, she was also the first editor of Servas International News. Programme Coordinator requested all the members to pray for Ch. Abdul Hadi who had died in the month of July 2002. “May the departed soul rest in Peace, “Ameen”. Programme Coordinator congratulated all the members about the first Servas Pakistan Newsletter and briefly introduced Servas Pakistan as well as Servas International and its activities worldwide.

After this, following members made their speeches about Servas and Peace:

Mr. Bilal Toor displayed his views about world peace and other common problems of humanity. He also introduced his NGO “FOREHEAD” Foundation Of Research, Education, Humanity, Environment And Development it has a slogan “Serving Humanity in Unity With New Ideas!”

Ms. Munazza Naseem offered all members to show their personal interest in Servas development projects. She said that we need your good suggestions for Servas Travel Guide. Mr. Tanveer Ahmed, Muhammad Ali, Dr.Saleem Akhtar and A. Latif Rashad all of these people displayed there views and prayed for the better future of Servas. They had shown their agreement to help the Servas in future and also promotion of Servas in Pakistan.

National Secretary Mr. Muhammad Naseem made a speech in which he highlighted the activities of Servas Pakistan including the experience of Servas International Conference Thailand, which held in July 2001. He also briefed about the first Servas Pakistan Newsletter and the next edition of Servas Travel Guide of Pakistan. He also proposed to extend membership and its activities for the peace of the world. He also talked about the need of Peace in the World. He said that war is not a solution of a problem or terrorism we need the peace in the world and we have to work hard to get this noble objective. At the end he thanked to all members and the Chief Guest who attended the meeting.

At the end, the Chief Guest addressed the audience and displayed his views about the basic structure of a man and his role in this world.

The keynote speaker of this meeting was Mr. Faisal Naveed Toor. He talked on different subjects of the society like World Peace, Environment, Research, Education, Serving the Humanity, Human Rights, Welfare of Youth, Women and Children.

A special post mark with FDC (First Day Cover) was also issued by F.Post Office on 10-10-2002 to commomorate the 53rd Anniversary of Servas International.

At the end of this meeting the most beautiful and interesting event was took place. (the MPA student oThe LUCKY DRAW of two Gold Medals (20-Karat Gold), one for Pakistani Servas member and other for Foreign Servas member. After Lucky DRAW, the Servas member Ms. Shamsa Malik (of Punjab University Lahore) was the winner. All the participants congratulated her and the Chief Guest awarded her Gold Medal and she also cut the Servas International Anniversary Cake with Chief Guest. The other Gold Medal was for Foreign Servas member but there was no foreigner in this meeting So, it was decide that this Gold Medal will be given to a national group in the next Servas conference at Barcelona Spain by Lucky Draw.

At the end of this beautiful meeting an Anniversary Cake with Hi-tea offered to all the participants, and all the members enjoyed with Hi-Tea in the beautiful Dinning Hall ( Lahore Gate ) of this Hotel.
