EXCHANGE

Despite the fact that these two islands are only 200 Kms apart (a twenty minute flight), there were very few exchange visits between these two islands in the past. When Vibeke MATORP came to Mauritius in December 1996, a Servas meeting was held from the 7th to 9th of December 1997 at Port Louis, in which delegates from Reunion took part. It was decided among other issues as to an exchange of families which would take the form of twinning the families between the two countries. The easiest first step was to have theRéunion families being received by Mauritian families and once the first visit would be accomplished, the Mauritians would return the visit. Effectively, a delegation comprising 8 persons arrived in Mauritius on 30th May 1997. The delegationwas all taken care of and a cocktail party was organised at the residence of Mineswar Sibsurun on the 1st of July. The next day, the delegation invited their Mauritian hosts to a dinner at the Pizza Hut. The group left Mauritius on the 3rd of July.
