Is 2 = 1 ? Well, friends, trust me, 2 CANNOT BE EQUAL TO 1 !! I know I'm just a mathematician amongst loads of others, but Please, I beg you, just trust me on this one. So, why the heck am I writing this article ? Have I gone bonkers ? Absolutely Not !!! I'm still OK in my mind.!!! It's just that I was going through the internet a few days back, when I saw this "proof" of 2 = 1. And the writer wanted to see if the readers could point out the mistake [obviously there was one mistake, since 2 cannot be equal to 1. Am I repeating myself here ? ] So I have decided to add the proof here, and see how many of you pals could find the mistake. Do send me an email if you are able to discover it. It's very simple, but somewhat not too obvious for the eye to catch it. If you want a hint, then this is all I can say : Nothing, but it creates trouble. Man..!, I'm so generous, I'm almost spoon-feeding you. Here it goes: Consider two non-zero numbers "a" and "b", such that a = b. If a = b, Then we can also write, a*a = a*b Subtract the same thing from both sides: aČ - bČ = ab - bČ (a-b)*(a+b) = b(a-b) Hence, a + b = b But a = b, So, the last equation can be written as, b + b = b ........!
