USEFUL INFORMATION

Beachwear by day and casual wear by night are the general trends. Light woolens and sweaters may be useful for the cooler months from June to September.

Mauritius is GMT +four hours; three hours ahead of mid-European time and two hours ahead of South African time.

Power supply throughout the island is 220 volts. Three-pin, British-type plugs and two-pin, French-type plugs are found.

English is the official language, but French and Creole are widely spoken.

Mauritius is a left-hand drive country, with priority to the right. Parking zones exist in the main towns and coupons are available at petrol stations.

Shopping Hours: These vary from town to town, but are usually around 09:30 - 17:30. Many shops are closed on Thursday and Saturday afternoons. Most shops are closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Office Hours: Weekdays approximately 08:30 - 16:00 and Saturdays 09:00 -12:00.

Post Office Hours: Monday to Friday 08:00 - 11:15 and 12:00 - 16:00, Saturdays 08:00 - 11:45.
