GENERAL INFORMATION
Entry Requirements
A visitor must be in possession of a valid passport and a return ticket or
onward ticket. A visitor's visa is normally granted for one month, but can be
renewed for a further period upon request. Visas may be obtained from Mauritian
Embassies and High Commissions.
An international vaccination certificate against yellow fever is needed if
arriving from an infected area. There is no risk of malaria in Mauritius.

Airport Tax and Facilities
All passengers over two years of age embarking at SSR International Airport (Plaisance)
are required to pay an airport tax of Rs.300. Coupons can be bought with air
ticket or through ground agent. SSR International airport is now managed by the
British Airports Authority (BAA) and is actually undergoing major re-development
works. SSR International airport is located on the south-east coast, 45
kilometres from Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. There are excellent
duty-free shops (World Duty-Free) at arrival and departure lounges, facilities
also include banks, a post office, a bar, a restaurant amongst others.

Currency
The monetary unit is the Mauritian Rupee (Rs) which is divided in 100 cents.
Notes: Rs.25, Rs.50, Rs.100, Rs.200, Rs.500, Rs.1000 and Rs.2000. Coins: 10
cents, 20 cents, 25 cents, 50 cents, Rs.1, Rs.5 and Rs.10.
