It is a bush 1.5-4m high, or a small tree of 3-8 m, and is smooth. The bark of branches is yellowish brown, with white lenticels. The leaves start to develop at flowering, are often greenish red. They have a petiole 3-5 mm long. There is an oval lamina, sometimes narrowly oval, 3-10 ┤ 1.5-4 cm, attenuated or almost rounded at the base, pointed or obtuse and apiculate at the tip. The edge has more or less developed teeth, sometimes are entire or nearly entire. The stipules measure 3-5 mm, and are narrowly triangular.

long, articuated at the inferior 1/4. The sepals are 4-6 mm long at the time
of flowering, obtuse, finally purple red. Petals are narrowly oval, 8-10 ┤
