KNOCKDOWN TOURNAMENT
KYOKUSHINKAI
MARTIAL ARTS FEDERATION
FRIDAY 17TH MARCH, 2012 AT TAHER BAGH, CHAMP DE MARS, MAURITIUS
Around one week after the Independence Day and as every year, the Kyokushinkai Martial Arts Federation organized its Independence Knockdown Tournament. This was the third tournament of the year 2012 and some special guests were welcomed, namely, a team from la possession, Reunion Island and some members of the Ashihara dojo (the ashihara style being derived from the kyokushinkai). The said tournament took place at Taher Bagh on last Saturday night. As usual, the hall accommodated an enthusiastic audience that encouraged the participants throughout the competition. And naturally, the presence of the determined participants, corner judges, referees, official members, organizers and all members of Kyokushinkai and the volunteers, did not go unnoticed.
The tournament was divided in three categories of kumite (fights) ; senior, Junior and Kids. There were a total number of 16 fighters per category for the senior and Junior Categories and a total of 8 fighters for the Kids Category. The categories were basically influenced by the age basis factor but of course, a lot of attention was given to the expertise/fighting experience and the fighting capabilities and skills which distinguished the fighters so that the latter are allocated respectively in the right category.
The fights were of a very high level and each fight was highly disputed. The fighters were fully ready to demonstrate their know-how, their hard acquired training and fighting talents, capabilities, techniques and potential. No need to say that the audience was very dynamic and drove the atmosphere to a real fervent and enthusiastic ambiance, which undoubtedly induced the participants to surmount their efforts and to give an excellence performance. Among the Reunion team, we could count 7 fighters who were present. Also from the Reunion team was present Sempei Jean Michel Magdeleine, who was part of the referee team. A few fighters who marked the night were Hassing Harvest who eventually was entitled as the Champion of the Category Kids; Noordally Adam from the Junior Category, with his strong punches which of course put him at a competitive edge and allowed him to unhook the 3rd place; the final of the Junior Category was tight with the kumite of Magdelaine Guillaume (Reunion) and Naeem Nazir; while the Senior Category held the most enthusiastic and tough kumite with strong and technically experienced fighters like Rabiva Rodrick and Romily Andy (Reunion) who gave a mindblowing performance which indeed drove the crowd to the fever pitch, and of course the fight between the 2 most indomitable ones who made their way to the final, they are Lisette Clyde and Ghanty Bilaal, the latter who got the most out of Lisette Clyde at the Grand Final of this tournament.
The champions were ecstatic through their triumphs and though having to struggle hard to unhook the titles, they were very satisfied for their input efforts that did not go in vain or overlooked. Through their brilliant performances, they could also motivate other adepts; especially the youngsters as well as those who could not make it through to the final or to the championship title this time, to train harder to achieve success and also to learn from the Reunion team who has experience of European competitions. But as very confidently said by Sosai Mas Oyama, "Behind each triumph are new peaks to be conquered", with this quote in mind, the victorious and defeated should look forward to more challenges in future and of course, train harder. There is a high level of team spirit, discipline and of course, Kyokushin Spirit prevailing which were all so easily noticed by the crowd present.
Other than the fights, the public was able to appreciate a demonstration effected by Sempai Hayatoolla Zahirulla , who gave a glittering performance of a kata followed by tamishiwari (breaking).
The Independence Knockdown Tournament took place in a jovial mood, encouraged by the members of the organisation and the so enthusiastic public. The fighters actually fought wholeheartedly and in fair play bearing in mind the kyokushin spirit.
As always, this event was a success thanks to all the Organisers; Sempai Moobeen Jeewa, the members of Kyokushinkai and of course Sensei Aslum Jeewa. Our sincere appreciation also to the Municipal Council of Port Louis & sponsors for their precious support.

The National Judo Center has known a very enthusiastic morning last Sunday, the 26th of February. There regrouped participants from mainly Beau Bassin/Rose Hill Dojos, Honbu Dojo and from the University of Mauritius for a grand regional competition. Beau Bassin Judo hall reached its fever pitch on Sunday with also a good number of enthusiastic spectators; parents among others, who made the effort to attend the event, and of course, with the presence of the most important one without whom the tournament would have been no success that is, the determined participants, corner judges, referees, official members, organizers and all members of Kyokushinkai and the volunteers.
The tournament had 4 major categories, 2 of which emphasized on Kumite (fights), notably: Category Kids and Category Junior. Each category was subject to the age group, for instance, the Junior Category well comprised of fighters who are emerging and showing much effort. The 2 other categories were composed of the Category Kata Boys and the Category Kata Girls. The compulsory kata for both categories was the Taikyoku sono ni.
The fighters were real eager beavers that Sunday morning and were ready to show their fighting talents and capabilities with the high expectations of their parents, friends and coach. Needless to say, the audience was champing at the bit and drove the atmosphere to a real fervent and enthusiastic ambiance, which undoubtedly induced the participants to surmount their efforts and good performance. The fighters, especially the Junior Category made evidence of their ‘Never Give Up’ spirit and did show their Kyokushin Fighting spirit during the competition. Whilst the little pride of Kyokushinkai, that is the Kids Category, altogether did make a very good performance.
The champions were elated and truly deserve the titles for their hard work, hard training and for all the efforts they put into winning their fights. However, they are very well aware that it is certainly easy to unhook a title but much difficult to maintain the same title. They should thus look forward to train harder so as to be able to face even harder challenges in the future and conquer new peaks.
Other than the fights, the public was able to appreciate a series of demonstration effected by Sempai Farzanah Aumeer, Sempai Irfaan Aumeer, Sempai Ramzun Alshad and Tuhaloo Guptaa who altogether gave a resplendent performance.
The 5th Ishi Shihan Memorial Kata and Knowdown tournament took place in a cheerful mood, encouraged by the members of the organisation and the so enthusiastic public. The participants, girls and boys actually perform wholeheartedly, bearing in mind the kyokushin spirit.
As always, this event was a success thanks to all the Organisers, the members of Kyokushinkai, MOY, and without forgetting everyone who gave a helping hand for the success of the tournament.
Point:-
Fighters who made good impression were Asutosh kamanah & Iyas Ghanty. Asutosh showed lot of improvement since his last tournament especially his fighting strategy. He fought in a very relaxed style and at the same time put lot of pressure on his opponents. The majority of his victories were either by Ippon or wazaris.
Ghanty showed good fighting spirit and simple good basic techniques.
