Wall to Wall Television
is producing 6 x 30 minute educational documentaries on extinct animals for Channel Four.
One of the programmes of the series "Extinct" will feature the "Dodo" and was filmed entirely in Mauritius. Mauritius was important to the production for it's authentic landscape which included beaches with background mountain ranges, ebony forest and archaeological digs at was is known as the first Dutch camp
Director
Russell Barnes
and his crew from Britain arrived on April 26th and began to work the very next day. They were seconded by a Mauritian crew for lighting, transport, hairstylist and make-up, catering and location management. All grip equipment used on location was rented locally and this included a 12 metre crane.
The programme includes a fictional segment where we will see Dutch sailors landing by boat, exploring the island's interior, meeting with a Dodo and enjoying a Bar-B-Q on a beach. Incidentally all actors are Mauritian.
Consultant and presenter Julian Hume flanked by Animatronics Operators Gustave Hoegen and Julian Ayers.
