They
are small trees varying between 1.80 to 12 m in height. The bark is dark
brown, sometimes soft and generally thin and deciduous. The young branches are
smooth or very lightly puberulent. Leaves have oblong to oblong-oval laminas
that measure 2.5 to 17.5 cm by 1.1 to 8.3 cm in length. They are rounded at
the tip and cuneiform at the base. The midvein is prominent and yellow in
colour. However, venation pattern is prominent on the lower leaf surface. The
petiole has an orange coloured base and measures 0.5 to 3.5 cm long. The
stipules are fused in a cylindrical sheath and can be 3 to 10 mm long. The styles usually measure 1.6 mm, are thick and fleshy with a triangular cross-section. The fruit is white, cream or bluish, ellipsoidal 7 to 10 mm by 6 to 8 mm. |
