Fish Oil:Good Heart-Brain Foods

Special substance in fish oil lowers blood fats(triglicerides) and may stop heart and brain-threatening clots.

Interest in the relationship of fish oil to cardiovascular disease began with a study of Greenland Eskimos, who eat a high-fat,high-cholesterol diet-a diet that ought to promote atherosclerosis.Yet,among Eskimos, atherosclerosis, strokes and heart disease are rare.Noting that the main source of fat in Eskimos diet is fish, they studied it and found it unique.

Fish fats contain relatively high amounts of omega-3fatty and researchers found that fish-loving people have high levels of this acid in their blood. It reduces a substance that causes blood platelets to stick together, leading to blocked arteries and eventual stroke or heart attack. If Eskimos arteries are clearer than those of the average Mauritian,it might be because of the fish they eat.

With salmon and salmon oil as diet for a month the average blood cholesterol levels dropped to 17%,but the trigliceride levels went down to 40%,which is fabulous. This is unique about the effect of fish oil on trigliceride metabolism. This also prevents or lessens the severity of stroke and it seems that this diet prevents small blood vessels from constriction, allowing them to take over the function of the larger, blocked arteries. Thus every Mauritian would do the trick by taking a teaspoon or two of Cod-Liver oil daily and be safe from Cardiovascular accidents.
