What is Javascript?

I just couldn't have had a website without a Javascript (nothing to do with JAVA) page on it! I know, I know ... you must be wondering whether I know anything at all about Javascript.

Well, the months I've spent building this website have surely helped me quite a bit. I did spend a few sleepless nights trying to figure out the meaning of those first lines of Javascript which I copied from another website after right-clicking my mouse, clicking 'View Source' and saving it on Notepad. Then I decided to download some Javascript tutorials from the Internet; the result is that I downloaded and printed a whole file of about 800 pages of Javascript from http://www.hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey. I'll tell you something ... the best way of learning Javascript is by 'borrowing' codes from other pages and trying to understand the meaning of each line of code in consultation with your tutorials. It's like reading a comprehension and checking all the difficult words in a dictionary.

Fortunately, I already had an adequate background in Pascal programming. It helped a lot even though Pascal is not an object-oriented language.

You must have noticed that, unlike other contemporary websites, there are practically no Macromedia Flash animations on this site. I honestly think that Flash is very useful for intros, especially to impress visitors. I am more content-oriented in my approach. If you probe into Advanced Javascript and dHMTL, you will surely know that almost everything is possible with coding. Obviously, the graphics won't be as good as in Flash but they will surely take less time to load ! Just experience the intro of http://www.doubleyou.com and you'll know what I'm talkin' about!

This page is especially for all those of you who have decided that they want their presence to be felt on the Net. Don't forget, however, that you will also have to learn HTML (Hyper Text MarkUp Language) and dHTML (dynamic HTML). JAVA and its applets will come later on!

Finally, I have a little surprise for you - yep! a color chart (also found on the menu) for those who might be having problems in getting the codes for their favourite colors.

On your marks! Get set! Go ... !!!
