About me

Hi! If you have read my biostats, you'd know that my name is Rajesh. That's right! My great-grandfather is a native of Kolkata, formerly Calcutta, (India) but I was born and brought up in the Indian Ocean paradise island of Mauritius (view slideshow). For those who haven't the faintest idea of where Mauritius is (you must be terribly outdated!), well, please scrutinise the region on the right of Madagascar with your electronic microscope. Yep! If you're lucky enough, on a cloudless day, you'll see a teeny-weeny spot of land (a mere 720 square miles) on the world map.

The story behind cueboy is that I love playing 8-ball pool. In fact, I have been the national champion for three years running (Dec 1993 - Dec 1996) and I have captained the Mauritian pool team on ten occasions. I stay in a little (couldn't be big!) town, called Vacoas (pronounced vah-kwah), which has less than 80,000 inhabitants.

I am currently a Mathematics, Statistics and Web Design lecturer at the Charles Telfair Institute (ex-De Chazal Du Mée Business School). I embarked on this statistical journey in 1986 in the former land of apartheid - Mandela's land of RAINBOW - to study Computer Science (hence my great interest in the subject)! Nothing could have been more true than the statement 'Statisticians happen by chance' and you bet I'll be last once to contest it. I graduated at the University of Durban - Westville (formerly an all-Asian university and now part of the University of Kwazulu-Natal) where I spent four years studying and also lectured in Statistics for one and a half years. I also spent one year at the University of Cape Town doing a B.Sc (Hons) in Actuarial Science and I currently hold a B.Sc (Hons) in Mathematical Statistics. Very soon, I intend to complete a Master of Research degree in Research Methodology (M. Res.) at the University of Mauritius.

My mother-tongue is Creole. I can read, write and speak English, French and Hindi (I prefer English) and I know a little bit of Afrikaans and Zulu.

Oh, yeah... I can't live without music (mainly instrumentals)... My favourite musical instruments are the sitãr, santoor, flute and piano. I love listening to:

  • Modern jazz

    • Kenny G
    • Najee
    • David Sanborn
    • Bob James

  • R & B

  • Buddha Bar

  • Café del Mar

  • Enigma

  • Black music

    • Lionel Richie
    • Michael Jackson
    • Freddie Jackson
